They are characteristics or attributes that we measure by a numerical measurement scale. They can be continuous quantitative variables (between two points on the scale there can be infinite value possibilities, e.g. people's weight or height) or discrete quantitative variables (between two points on the measurement scale there is a finite number of possibilities, e.g. number of children in couples or number of decayed teeth in people).
